Yin Yoga in Hillsboro
Stillness Is the Practice
Yoga doesn't always have to mean moving from one pose to the next. Sometimes the practice itself is stillness.
Yin yoga offers a slower approach to yoga, with longer-held postures, fewer transitions, and more time to notice what you're experiencing.
At Breathing Room Collective in Hillsboro, Yin yoga is part of our broader range of practices for students who want to balance movement with stillness.
What Is Yin Yoga?
Yin yoga generally involves holding postures for several minutes at a time. The poses are often seated, reclined, or close to the floor, and props can help students find an appropriate position. Rather than trying to achieve the deepest possible version of a posture, Yin invites you to explore a sustainable position and stay with it. That might mean noticing sensation, breath, thoughts, restlessness, or the impulse to move.
Yin Isn't Just "Easy Yoga"
A yin yoga class can be physically quiet and still offer plenty to pay attention to. Long holds can create an entirely different experience from a faster-paced practice. Yin also gives you an opportunity to explore your relationship with stillness—which, for many people, is harder than movement.
Yin and Restorative Yoga
Yin and Restorative are often confused because both can involve longer holds and plenty of props.
The intention is different.
Restorative yoga emphasizes support and relaxation, while Yin generally works with sensation and longer-held positions.
Neither is better.
They simply offer different experiences.
That said, we love offering Restorative Yin a few times a week on our yoga studio class schedule.
Restorative Yin in Hillsboro
Breathing Room offers a 90-minute Restorative Yin class Fridays at 10:30 AM, combining elements of both practices. It's a wonderful, spacious opportunity to slow down, spend more time with each posture, and experience the support of restorative props. For students with busy weeks, a Friday morning practice can also provide a deliberate pause before heading into the weekend.
We also offer a 60-minute Restorative Yin practice on Sunday evenings at 5:30 PM.
